Nishiki Foodie Tour

Explore the Nishiki Market and enjoy some tasty treats at a local izakaya

We start the tour at the Nishiki market, a place recently celebrating it's 400th anniversary and the heart of Kyoto's culinary scene. We then take you on a stroll through this famous market and point out some interesting shops and places for you to nibble on some street food sampling some of the local specialties. There are also a lot of interesting shops along the way such as a famous kitchenware shop selling the world famous Japanese knives. During this time, we will share with you some of our local knowledge and teach you the basics about Japanese cooking. Samples are not included in the price so you can really go nuts if you want or just just take the pictures of your friend eating the octopus!

After our stroll through the markets with a few samples along the way, we will make a stop at a local pub style restaurant or "izakaya" for a chance to sit down and enjoy some classic Japanese dishes such as edamame, sashimi, chicken karaage, tamago-yaki (Japanese omelette) and others. We can even teach you a little Japanese so that next time you go out for a meal you are ready to take a dive into the menu. Add a Gion Night Walk to make it the perfect way to cap off the evening.

Note: We split the bill evenly based on the number of guests at the izakaya and the cost is generally 3,000 yen a person for one or two drinks and lots of tapas to share. There is an option to prepay that amount by credit card in advance or in cash on the day.
