Hello and thanks so much for booking the Hike and Hot springs day trip with us.

We start with a train journey up to the northern mountains which takes about thirty minutes through the mountain valleys. From there a walk up to Kibune Village, then a hike up the mountainside to Kurama Temple and a pleasant stroll downhill into town for lunch before we go for an outdoor bathing experience in the village below.

Lunch can end up being pretty late so be sure to have a big breakfast and/or stock up on some snacks and that for the trip. There is a small bakery at the station where we meet in the morning with tasty sandwiches and 7-11 nearby too. There are not many options for food once we get in the village and onto the trail.

It's a decent workout (especially the first 30mins of stair climbing) with a great pay off at the end being able to soak your whole body in the warm rejuvenating waters.

One thing to note that the baths are separated by gender, but you will be required to go "au natural" without any swimwear. Bring a small towel along and a change of underclothes as you might get a little sweaty on the hike. Towels can be rented at the facility for an extra fee too. For those who are a bit shy about jumping into the bath, you can enjoy an ice cream, a drink or sitting in a massage chair in the lounge area of the hot springs while the rest of us take a bath.

After our bath (and possibly a beer or an ice cream) we wander to the train and head back into town usually arriving around 4pm.

NOTE: the onsen is closed until further notice

Meeting point & time: exit #7 of Demachiyanagi station at 9:45am. The exit of the Keihan station leads to the entrance of the Eizan line which we will take for the northbound journey.

Try to arrive earlier so that you can see the surrounding area and get water, snacks etc.

We look forward to discovering one of the natural gems of Kyoto with you.

In case of rain: For the hike, we look online and see the forecast and if it's more than 50% chance of showers, we either try to rearrange the date based on the guide and customer's availability, or we go ahead with a poncho. For those who are not keen on a getting even a little wet, we can offer you a 50% refund. In the case of very heavy rain or other extreme weather such as typhoons, we offer to reschedule if possible or a full refund.

I assume full responsibility for my own safety during the course of the tour and waive any right to legal action towards any and all individuals involved regardless of if an accident occurred due to perceived negligence on anyone’s behalf.
